Conservation in the beautiful Elk Valley since 1918

Formed in 1918 as the Michel-Natal Rod and Gun Club, we have evolved over the last century into what we are today. The name changed back in 1966 to the current one, but the values have remained the same. Working with local industry, organizations and government agencies we strive to protect and maintain the wildlife, fisheries and environment in our backyard. Some of the more recent initiatives we have been involved in include The Big Ranch Ecosystem Enhancement Project, Elk Valley West Bighorn Sheep Population Dynamics Study, Grave Prairie habitat enhancement, and the ongoing elk collaring and migration study. We are always looking to attract new members and have an active youth archery program and are currently working to get a youth shooting program up and running as well.

 2025 Executive & Directors

Below is a list of all executives, directors and committee members. If you have any comments or questions about any of the areas within the club you can use this list to direct your inquiry. We would like to thank all of the members and volunteers who offered their time to be involved with the club this year! For those looking to get involved, we hold a monthly meeting on the 3rd Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce and we would love to have you attend.

Matt Huryn, Club President

Matt brings nearly two decades of hands on experience working with the Sparwood and District Fish and Wildlife Association. Having held various roles at the committee and executive level, and for the last five years leading the club’s Big Ranch Ecosystem Enhancement Project, he will once again be taking a more broad focus in his role as Club President.

Chad Bowen, Vice President

Chad is a long time supporter and steadfast member and volunteer within the club. Internally, his claim to fame is the time and effort he has invested into our successful fundraising events. In addition to those valuable successes, Chad has provided hands on support and guidance on many club projects including the capturing and collaring portion of our club’s five year Elk Migration Study.

John Huryn, Club Secretary

John is one of our longest standing members and likely holds the record for most meetings attended by any active member. John’s involvement dates back to 1979 and through the years he has held nearly every available position within the club. His contributions are far too numerous to list, and he continues to be a valuable resource of knowledge and guidance for all club initiatives.

Sydney Mullen, Club Treasurer

As a CPA with ten years of professional experience, Sydney is a very welcome fit in the role of Club Treasurer. Not only does she look after the day to day tasks of the club, but she has successfully managed over one million dollars in club projects since joining us.

Dalton Bouvier, Past President

Dalton joined the club as a curious member of the sport shooting and hunting community. His eagerness and drive to make a difference led him to a Vice President role, and shortly thereafter became Club President from 2022-2024. Dalton continues to be an active member and participant in our club’s activities.

Club Directors

Gareth Davies, Tyler Rybachuk, Guy Gioia, Dennis Meadows, Lane Ogden, Philip Allison, Shawna Mitchell, Mike Ogden, Daniel Piderman, Darren Reghenas.
